Australia's young and talented multimedia artists will be offered
the unique and eXciting opportunity to showcase their work in an
International arena, alongside some of the Asia-Pacific's hottest
new digital artists, with the launch of the Multimedia Art Asia
Pacific (MAAP) Student X Competition.
Based on the theme X, the competition encourages students from
across Australia to 'eXperiment, eXplore, eXtend' with art and
new technology, and invites budding artists to submit artworks
in an online/web format.
MAAP Festival Director, Ms Kim Machan recognises that there are
exceptional young electronic artists coming out of the Australian
universities, however there are often limited opportunities for
these young artists. The MAAP Festival has consistently featured
work by young and emerging local artists and has adopted a strong
commitment to providing students with priceless opportunities
to get their art seen by other people.
"The Student X Competition aims to provide a platform for
student artists to showcase their art and technology in creative,
visual and non-commercial way in an International arena amongst
peers and digital media critics," Ms Machan said.
The launch of the inaugural competition follows MAAP's exciting
and unprecedented announcement to hold this year's annual digital
arts Festival at an international venue."The Festival is
moving to an international venue for the first time. It is an
exciting step in committing to the region and building relationships
with the international art community.
