The central exhibition is mounted in the newly rebuilt State Library of Queensland in Brisbane while the Institute of Modern Art host Singapore artists LIM + PHUA. In Shanghai, The Zendai Museum of Modern Art hosts Iain Mott.

In New York the Museum of Modern Art host a presentation in their MediaScope series by *CANDY FACTORY PROJECTS in conjunction with out of the internet. ‘out of the internet coincides’ YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES online commission by Tate, London.

A compelling panel that includes: Beryl Graham from CRUMB new media art curatorial organisation, UK; Melinda Rackham Executive Officer, The Australian Network for Art and Technology; Fatima Lasay, independent new media curator from the Philippines; Julianne Pierce, new media specialist and curator Public Programmes Adelaide Biennial 2008; and Kim Machan, MAAP Festival Director. out of the internet (and into the world) The KURO Satellites involves a series of community workshops where the first (supported by MAAP) will focus on open source software for artists working in the Philippines. Developed by Fatima Lasay, this project is intimately scaled to respond to Lasay’s observations of the successful impact of modest and direct, self-organised programmes.

Move on Asia Date: 1 December – 25 January 2007 Place: The State Library of Queensland Open: 12:00 to 6pm, Wednesday to Sunday The emerging video project Move on Asia utilizes the internet as a networking communications tool to prepare and distribute a large program of video art involving the curators of twelve art spaces from six countries in Asia presenting 22 emerging artists. The project is hoped to develop into an expanding archive.

Manhua Wonderlands Date: 1 December – 25 January 2007 Place: State Library Queensland Time: 12:00 to 6pm, Wednesday to Sunday A major youth and community project incorporating individual and collaborative works from established and emerging artist working with young people from Asian backgrounds. Manhua Wonderlands has developed an extensive network of public presentations and will host major presentations by Jemima Wyman, Van Sowerwine, Luke Ilett, Jean Poole: curated by Thea Baumann

Manhua Wonderlands Tour Date: 26 November – 25 January 2007 Place: The State Library of Queensland and other venues Open: 10am to 6pm Monday to Sunday DVD interactive exhibition distributed to 331 public libraries in Queensland to connect and involve communities throughout Queensland in the opening of the State Library of Queensland. Also distributed to schools through Education Queensland and selected museums and galleries through Museum and Gallery Services Queensland.

Manhua Wonderlands networked events in Brisbane: ‘Karaoke Bedlam’ Date: 9pm till late, Saturday 2 December Place: Don’t Tell Mama, Karaoke Club, Brunswick Street (adjacent to Brunswick Street Railway Station) A one night public event, transforming a Brisbane Karaoke Club into a hard-core art cross over venue.

Manhua Wonderlands DVD will be presented in: Noodle Bars and Asian clubs across Brisbane Purikura Infestation at Area 58, Elizabeth Arcade, Elizabeth Street (opposite Myer Centre CBD) A sticker booth project developed by Van Sowerwine and Alice Lang curated by Thea Baumann

As part of Multimedia Art Asia Pacific’s festival programme, Manhua Wonderlands presents a night of site-specific installations, performances, and video screenings at Don’t Tell Mama Karaoke Club in China Town.

From documented performances to montages of k-pop and j-pop idols, Manhua Wonderlands is calling for screen works which explore and transmute the karaoke pop video as a medium, and place a revealing spot-light on the communities that contribute to the chaos, drama, and role-play of karaoke culture.

• Successful entries receive a screening fee of $100 AU.

2006 is the Year of Exchange between Japan and Australia, and MAAP is pleased to be a sponsor of the Interimage Art Exchange.

Since earlier this year, a group of 33 artists from the Tokyo University of Fine Art and the Queensland College of Art have been collaborating in an art and culture exchange: INTERIMAGE.

Manhua Wonderlands, a media arts initiative developed through MAAP will be presenting Chromophonozone created by artist Jemima Wyman on Saturday the 19th of August.

Jemima Wyman takes over a room in a karaoke club in Brisbane's Chinatown, and presents a public exhibition, performance, and screening event exploring the boundaries between character role-playing, violence and ritual.

Manhua Wonderlands, a media arts initiative developed by MAAP is proud to present Screen Sashimi a screening event to take place at Metro Arts in conjunction with the State Library of Queensland and Madman Entertainment.

Screen Sashimi presents a range of cult anime, Japanese surrealist film from the 60s and 70s, and experimental video from artists Jemima Wyman and Van Sowerwine involved in the Manhua Wonderlands project.
