光源自光 Light From Light

Art powered by the sun

Light from Light is an exhibition presenting over 12 major installations by internationally acclaimed artists. It features light-sculptures, neon art objects, photovoltaic structures, images generated by solar telescopes, illuminated texts and solar-laser performance. Light from Light contemplates the poetics of energy harnessed from the sun. In this exhibition, artists treat light as a medium, an energy source and a metaphor for illumination and knowledge.

The exhibition will be presented at the Shanghai Library and the State Library of Queensland simultaneously, with additional public programs held at the China Art Academy (Hangzhou) and the Edge (SLQ, Brisbane).

Featuring:

  • Dual Library Exhibition, with Live Synch Event
  • Bilingual DVD Presentation, Catalogue & Online Content
  • Artists Talks, Public Lectures & Forums
  • Artist Residency Program in Shanghai and Brisbane
  • Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Showcase

Libraries and art

Light from Light will be seen in two countries at the same time, commencing at the Shanghai Library and The State Library of Queensland.

The artists travel to each country to thoughtfully situate their work in library collection and reading spaces, not normally used for exhibitions.

The unique exhibition format is designed to connect audiences in Australia and China, providing an opportunity to encounter art with thoughts of how it could be shaped by another site, audience and cultural context.
