Video Ground: Recent Moving Image Works from Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand gathers together six contemporary artists from Australia and Aotearoa/NZ who work outside of stable cinematic genres to rethink historical and narrative accounts of place.
This 2008 touring program curated by Rachel O’Reilly was also partly inspired by recent critiques of locative media art paradigms and place-interested aesthetics by a broader field of artists and cultural critics from the antipodes.
Video Ground was commissioned as a MAAP touring program, and premiered at the Bangkok Experimental Film Festival, March 25-30, 2008; and the Chicago Film Studies Center, April 11, 2008.
In addition to the full program information and news updates on Video Ground available on the MAAP website, this project has a specially authored Online Supplement, which includes more extended curatorial writings on each of the individual works.
